Be a Trip Leader
What do we look for?
- A strong testimony of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a life that consistently reflects that belief.
- Proven ability to inspire and help youth develop greater faith in Jesus Christ.
- Confidence in who you are and your ability to impact lives for good.
- A pattern of excellence in your academic or professional history.
- Leadership Experience.
- Previous international experience (beyond a mission).
- Experience working with youth (14–19).
- 21 to 30 years of age by May 31, 2026 (majority of our Trip Leaders are 22+).
- Commitment to attend a mandatory "Sorting Day" event on March 6, 2026. This is where you will find out the location of your trip and the names of your Builders. Those living within 4 hours of the event will be expected to attend in-person, otherwise Zoom attendance is acceptable and mandatory.
- Commitment to attend a three-day-long IN-PERSON Trip Leader Training, May 7–9, 2026 in Garden City, Utah. No Zoom option will be offered. Any and all Trip Leaders must attend the training in its entirety to be eligible to lead an HXP Trip.
- Able to commit to 45 hours of preparation during the year leading up to your trip.
- Able to commit to 3–5 weeks to Humanitarian Experience during Summer 2026.
- A current temple recommend.
What do I have to do to apply?
For those of you applying for your second or third time, welcome back! Our application process for 2026 has four parts:

Decisions
by February 27, 2026All decisions will then be communicated by February 27, 2026 and trip assignments will be announced at “Sorting Day” on March 6, 2026 (which is mandatory to attend either in-person or over zoom).

We ask that Trip Leaders have an availability of 3-5 weeks to be able to lead an HXP trip!
No, the Trip Leader Position is a volunteer position you will apply for. All your travel costs on the trip are covered.
No, as a first-year Trip Leader, you will not get to choose where you'd like to serve; we will assign you a location based on a variety of factors, including how your personality type will match up with your co-leader, your language ability, and lots and lots of prayer. We look for 21- 35 year olds that have a strong testimony of the restored gospel Church of Jesus Christ and a life that reflects that belief. Other qualifications include previous international travel, experience working with 14-19 year olds, and you must commit to 3-5 weeks for your trip in the coming summer.
